About

History and Vision

The Front Porch Alliance is a non-profit, faith partnership in the urban center of Kansas City. It originated in 1999 as a project to mark the 50th anniversary of the Village Presbyterian Church. Front Porch Alliance quickly grew beyond the dreams of its founders into an organization that successfully partners with urban and suburban churches as well as many social service agencies, civic groups and city programs in an effort to help an inner-city neighborhood take back its community from the crime, blight and drugs that have plagued it for more than thirty years.

Front Porch Alliance started by asking the residents of the Ivanhoe neighborhood what they considered their greatest community needs. Beautification (including trash cleanup, home repairs, blight eradication), education, economic development and health topped their list. Working with the residents, the Front Porch Alliance developed programs that addressed those particular areas.

Since then homes have been repaired, lots have been cleared, crops have been sown, children have been embraced and families have been supported. Most importantly, friendships have been made that will last forever and hope has been spread far and wide.

Our continued partnership with Ivanhoe has seen new projects added; new challenges faced head on, positive outcomes celebrated.
